The Old Stoic Society is the Alumni Society for Stowe School. We are a separate organisation that works alongside Stowe to connect Old Stoics to the School and each other as a life-long community.
The Old Stoic Society is managed by a committee of Old Stoics, dedicated to supporting their fellow members to build long-lasting bonds to Stowe. We are proud to be one of the most active alumni led communities in the country.
We care for Old Stoics throughout their lives by offering a range of support services, careers advice, sporting and cultural activities, professional connections and members’ services. We also aim to encourage Stoics to thrive during their time at Stowe by working with the School on various areas of activity such as careers services. Once a Stoic leaves Stowe, the Old Stoic Society takes over to offer support for the rest of their life. We also run a stand-alone charity called the Old Stoic Benevolent Trust that supports Old Stoics and their families if they fall on hard times.
Welcome to the Old Stoic Society!
As an Old Stoic and Stowe Parent, it is an honour to serve as Chair of the OSS Society. We strive to provide Old Stoics with lifelong support and lifelong fellowship as soon as they leave the gates of Stowe and enter the world beyond.
With over eleven thousand Old Stoics in our ranks, we are lucky to harbour an unrivalled range of business, professional and personal connections that make up a support network for our members. You can find long-lost friends or make new business contacts on this website.
The members’ services and opportunities we provide aim to inspire members to have the courage to stand out from the crowd, think on their feet and to be creative, so they can make a real impact in life. We feed the knowledge of older generations to young Old Stoics through a varied careers programme and run a mentoring programme to provide advice and progression for all. We are working on exciting plans to improve our careers services for members of all ages.
The Society has a myriad of sports teams and clubs for members to take part in and we actively encourage new groups to start up. A varied calendar of members' events take place across the country and the world each year, to allow everyone to meet up or return to Stowe.
The Old Stoic Office at Stowe is led by our Director, Anna Semler (Nugent 05) and our Events Manager, Charlotte Evans. The direction and activity of the Society is managed by the Old Stoic Society Committee and a handful of smaller subcommittees. If you would like to lend a hand, please do get in touch.

The Old Stoic Society Constitution is a set of rules that enumerates the powers and functions of the Society. A copy of this document can be seen by clicking below.
The Old Stoic Society produces audited accounts year on year: these are available to members. Please email oldstoic@stowe.co.uk if you would like to view a particular year.
Life Membership of the Old Stoic Society is £1,200 in total. This is charged as an Extra on school bills, with five instalments of £240 each being billed from terms two to six of each child’s time at Stowe. If you would prefer to defer payments or set up an alternative payment plan, please contact the Old Stoic Office. We aim to be as flexible as possible to accommodate everyone’s needs. Above all, we hope as many Stowe leavers as possible will become Life Members of the Old Stoic Society so we can include them in our community long into the future and support them to flourish for the rest of their lives.

+ When will payments for Life Membership of the Old Stoic Society be charged?
The first instalment of £240 will be charged during your child’s second term at Stowe. The charge will appear on the extras bill because the Old Stoic Society is a separate organisation to Stowe.
+ I want to defer payments for the Old Stoic Society, how do I do this?
This can be arranged by emailing the Old Stoic Office. Please contact Anna Semler (Nugent 05), Old Stoic Society Director, to defer payment. We can arrange for you to pay for Life Membership for your child in one payment of £1,200 on your final school bill. This must be arranged in advance.
To contact Anna, please email asemler@stowe.co.uk or telephone 01280 818252.
+ I do not wish for my child to be a Life Member of the Old Stoic Society. How do I opt out of Membership?
Parents wishing to opt their child out of Life Membership of the Old Stoic Society need to speak to Anna Semler (Nugent 05), Old Stoic Society Director, to ensure they are aware of the advantages of Life Membership. To contact Anna, please email asemler@stowe.co.uk or telephone 01280 818252.
If you still wish to opt your child out of Membership, you are required to send a formal written letter to the Head and the Chair of the Old Stoic Society explaining your reasons for wanting to opt out.
Your child will receive a formal letter from the Old Stoic Society informing them that they have been opted out of Life Membership of the OSS and what is means in terms of future exclusion from all Old Stoic Society Events, reunions, business networking and careers support opportunities.
Letters addressed to the Head and the Chair of the OSS should be directed to:
Anthony Wallersteiner, Old Stoic Office, Stowe School, Buckingham MK18 5EH
Toby Gauvain, Old Stoic Office, Stowe School, Buckingham MK18 5EH
Digital letters can be emailed to: asemler@stowe.co.uk
+ My Parents opted me out of Life Membership of the Old Stoic Society, how do I join?
You are very welcome to join the Old Stoic Society at anytime after you leave Stowe. Life Membership is charged at the rate that you parents would have been charged whilst you were at Stowe. Please contact Anna Semler (Nugent 05), Old Stoic Society Director, to arrange to pay your Life Membership fee. To contact Anna, please email asemler@stowe.co.uk or telephone 01280 818252.
We are able to offer payment plans to allow you to pay for your Life Membership over the course of three years. Payments can be made in one go, annually, every six months or monthly for a maximum of three years. By way of an example, if you choose to pay monthly for three years, the regular payment would be around £34 a month.
To discuss alternative options and payment plans please contact Anna Semler (Nugent 05), Old Stoic Society Director, by emailing asemler@stowe.co.uk or telephone 01280 818252.
+ How do I cancel my membership and resign from the Old Stoic Society?
Any Member may resign at any time by notice in writing to the Director of the Society at the Old Stoic Office, Stowe School.
There shall be no refunds of Life Subscriptions for those wishing to resign.
+ If I am an OSS Non Member can I attend Old Stoic Society Events?
OSS Non Members are not actively invited to attend Old Stoic Society Events. If you do wish to attend a ticketed event, you are welcome to purchase a ticket. If you wish to attend an event that has no charge for Members you will be contacted by the Old Stoic Office to request payment for the event, to cover the cost of catering and services being supplied.
