The Enduring Temple Spirit

On Speech Day this year, a simple but special meeting took place on the South Front during the picnics.

Mr Andrew Thomson (Temple 65), who was Head of Temple House, struck up a conversation about Temple. Nearby, Jack Buckingham (Temple 2026) - the current Head of House—overheard him and introduced himself.

What followed was half an hour of easy conversation, as past and present came together. Andrew shared memories from his time at Temple, while Jack spoke about life in the House today. Despite the years between them, there was an immediate understanding—proof that the spirit of Stowe and Temple House hasn’t changed.

It felt like a rare and genuine moment: a young Stoic and an Old Stoic, connected by the same place, the same traditions, and the same sense of belonging. A chance meeting, but a meaningful one—and a reminder of how special those shared ties to Stowe can be.
