Old Stoic, Phoebe English (Lyttelton 04), has announced that a second piece from her fashion archive has been acquired by The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Collection.
The acquisition features her SS20 “Care Label” jacket and skirt, a design that marked an important turning point in her move towards more sustainable fashion practices. Created using unused care labels encased within layers of silk organza, the piece reflects Phoebe’s early exploration of circular design, material responsibility and garment end-of-life considerations.
The acquisition follows the Museum’s purchase of her “Sunray Dress” in 2024, which was displayed in the Costume Institute’s exhibition Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion. This latest addition recognises Phoebe’s pioneering approach to sustainable design and ensures that this significant work will be preserved within one of the world’s most prestigious fashion collections.
Congratulations to Phoebe on this remarkable achievement.
