The Old Stoic Society's 2026 Summer Work Placement Programme enjoyed an outstanding year, with 42 Stoics and Old Stoics taking part in placements across 24 organisations and receiving glowing feedback from hosts.

Hosts were full of praise for the students they welcomed into their organisations. At CFES, John Davies described his interns as "a real credit to Stowe School", commending their enthusiasm, curiosity and willingness to learn.

Rupert Dawes of Knight Frank was equally impressed, saying: "Everyone was very engaged and it was a pleasure to host them." He added that teams across the business had been struck by the students' “maturity and professionalism”.

At Capt's, Horatio Smith highlighted the qualities shown by his two interns, calling them: "Very bright, motivated and enthusiastic. Future leaders, I'm sure!"

George Dunn of Approved Business Finance echoed these sentiments: "It was a very positive experience. The student was polite, engaged and represented Stowe well throughout the placement."

Jess Booth of Causeway Technologies described the recruitment process as “efficient and worthwhile”, adding: "We thoroughly enjoyed having the students with us over the summer.”

William Twiddy of Hextall Twiddy described his intern as "an intelligent and affable person with plenty of common sense and a good degree of commercial understanding", adding that the programme is "a very well-run scheme" that he would happily support again.

The impact of the programme was equally evident in student feedback. Akain Jayawardena (Cobham 28), who completed placements at Lifestyle Wealth Management and Digital Origin Solutions, said: "I feel very lucky to have had the opportunity to take part in such a valuable programme. These experiences have not only provided me with an insight into different career paths but have also inspired me."

He highlighted the teamwork and communication skills he developed while gaining first-hand experience in both the technology and wealth management sectors.

Cayla Saunyama (Queen’s 28), who completed her placement at CFES, described the interview process as "warm and inviting" and said she gained both presentation and practical skills. Meanwhile, Eva-Grace Ng (Stanhope 25), who interned with Exceptional Needs Today magazine, spoke of developing her communication, editing and research skills through a "diverse and engaging" experience.

Looking ahead to 2027, the Old Stoic Society intends to expand placement opportunities in underrepresented sectors, including arts and media, sport, medicine, and the food industry. Members of the Stowe community interested in hosting a placement are encouraged to contact OS Careers Coordinator Emily Elfer at eelfer@stowe.co.uk or complete the host recruitment form HERE.
